Wenatchee Bighorns in Line Dancing class
A few players and the coach of the Wenatchee Bighorns visited our line dancing class in early March. They had so much fun that they came back with their whole team. View a Reel on Facebook of their visit.
Things are humming in the valley right now and the Wenatchee Valley Senior Activity Center is no exception. Our membership continues to rise and everyone is busy exercising, having lunch or simply enjoying hanging out in the Social Hall to visit with friends and fellow members.

As you walk in the door of the Senior Center, you will see a beautiful quilt on display. We have had many questions about this. The short and easy answer is that this gorgeous piece of artwork can be yours if you buy a raffle ticket for just $5. Tickets will remain on sale up to the date of the drawing, which will be June 27. I know I talked about this a little in last month’s Livewire, but it looks like there may be a lot of people missing out on this opportunity. Don’t let that be you! Get your ticket(s) today!

This issue of Livewire has some changes in it (when does it NOT). When you view the calendar in the middle of the publication (I know that is the first place everyone looks!), you will see a cacophony of color. That is Russ. He came up with the wonderful idea of color-coding the rooms where classes and events are held. This should make it easier for you to quickly identify what space you are in for your upcoming class or event. This will be especially useful for new members. Russ has asked for feedback, so let us know what you think. [Russ also has updated the activity calendar on the website with the same corresponding colors for consistency.]

Our local Apple Blossom Festival Royalty graced the Senior Center with their presence on April 15. Apple Blossom is always a fun occasion in Wenatchee. We look forward to this time of the year when the newest royal court attends lunch with us and shares a little bit about who they are and what they have been up to since their February coronation. They always entertain us and this year was no exception. You can see a little clip of them singing a song on our Facebook page. We had a full lunch crowd and everyone enjoyed themselves as the ladies wandered table to table and visited with us. Thank you to the School Retirees Association for facilitating their visit and thank you to Queen Ella Johnson and Princesses Daeja Carlson and Yasmin Perez for sharing your time with us.

Speaking of royalty, congratulations are in order for our own Barbara McCardle, the newest member of the Apple Blossom Senior Royalty. Colonial Vista held their first annual Senior Royalty Pageant and Barbara secretly entered herself. She finally had to confess to me what she was up to when she was selected to be in the pageant. No surprise to anyone, Barbara was chosen as a Princess. She joins Princess Gladys Burts and Queen Donna Dayton in the royal court. You can see Barbara in all her glory in this year’s Apple Blossom Festival Parade.

Applications for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers are available at our reception desk. If you have access to the internet, the preferred way to apply is to go to the Aging and Adult Care of Central Washington (AACCW) website (aaccw.org/sfmnp/) and submit the application there. If you use the application we have available, you will have to fill it out and mail it to the AACCW address on the form. If you wish to have them mail you an application, please contact AACCW directly or if you have questions, you can reach them at 800-572-4459, ext. 235.
Apple Blossom Royalty singing
The 2025 Apple Blossom Royal Court visited the Senior Center during lunch on April 15. As part of their tradition, the young ladies performed a tongue-and-cheek song representing their year as royalty. Pictured from left to right are Princess Yazmin Perez, Queen Ella Johnson and Princess Daeja Carlson. View a Reel of their performance.
As a reminder, our Vibrant Motion Live aerobics class is suspended while we search for a new instructor. Our previous instructor has taken a new job position and is no longer teaching here at the Senior Center. If anyone has leads on a potential aerobics instructor, please contact our Program Director, Lydia Agidius. We hate to lose this vital class. We’d like to get it going again as soon as possible.

On a final note, our annual meeting and election is scheduled for Wednesday, June 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. Our Nominating Committee will accept applications for board membership through Friday, May 16. This year, we are accepting nominations for two board positions expiring at the end of June. The Chairman and the Director B positions will be voted on. To be considered for nomination for election to Chairman of the Board, candidates must have served on the board for at least one year within the preceding two administrative years. If you are interested in serving in these positions, please pick up an application packet at the reception desk.

Have a wonderful May!

~ Lisa
