By Lisa Blair, Executive Director Happy December, everyone! This month’s message will be a little shorter than usual since it is only early November as I write this; our print deadline also comes sooner than normal because of Thanksgiving. Lisa BlairExecutive Director It is officially the holiday season and there is so much happening at the Senior Center that it is vendors this year and thanks to Lydia, our Program Director, the entire event process ran more smoothly than ever. I am writing this on the eve of the fair, but I can already tell it is going to be a fantastic event. The energy and enthusiasm as everyone set up their booths is simply contagious! If you could not attend this year, be sure to mark your calendar for next year’s fair — you will not want to miss it. The Christmas Cottage also made its debut during the fair and will remain open through Christmas. It is filled with beautiful holiday items and new treasures are added daily. Stop by and treat yourself (or someone else) to something special! On November 7th, we held our annual Veterans Day luncheon to honor the men and women who have served our country. I had the pleasure of presenting Jay Larson with this year’s Veterans Day Quilt, created by the talented members of the NCW Quilt Guild. Jay’s dedication and service are deeply appreciated — thank you, Jay, for your selfless commitment to our nation. Finally, some exciting news: The paperwork for our name change to Foothills Community Center has been filed with the Washington Secretary of State! Beginning with our next issue of The Livewire, you will see our new name and logo. Barbara will also start answering the phone as “Foothills Community Center,” so do not hang up — you have reached the right place! This is an exciting transition for us. While there may be a few small bumps along the way, please know we are working hard to make it as smooth as possible. Beginning in early January, Foothills Community Center will reintroduce member ID cards. Although these cards were used in the past, they have not been utilized in recent years. To help us accurately track volunteer hours and monitor attendance for classes, lunches, events and more, we will begin using member ID cards again. This change has been carefully considered over the past two years, and with our recent name change, now is the perfect time to bring the system back. It is also an important step in meeting compliance requirements from our insurance provider and local fire district regarding the number of people allowed in the building at any given time. In the event of an emergency, this system will help us quickly account for all members checked in but not yet confirmed in a safe zone. If you have any questions or concerns about this upcoming change, please stop by my office — I’d be happy to speak with you personally. We want everyone to understand the purpose of this update and how it helps us keep our members safe and properly accounted for. We will provide hands-on training until everyone is comfortable with the new system. By the end of the transition, members will be able to sign up for lunches, check in for classes, view account balances, and more. Thank you for your patience as we continue adapting to our ever-changing world. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying the start of the Christmas season. ~ Lisa |
