Line dancing has become one the most popular activities at Foothills Community Center (FCC), largely due to the dedicated instruction and leadership of Frankie Fitzjarrald. The Foothills Community Center Annual Meeting & Board Elections — 2026
There are currently 3 open positions on our Board of Directors to be filled at the Annual Election Meeting on Wednesday, June 17 at 1 p.m. The official start of summer is just weeks away and by all accounts we are in for a toasty one. I am sure that I speak for most of you when I say we will miss the colorful displays of flowers and budding trees that come with spring, but the eternal sunshine and consistently warm days are very appealing. I hope you are all getting the opportunity to enjoy it.

Zaylie Doll, Jaylee Hix and Isabella Schultz, sophomores at Eastmont High School, were looking for ideas to compete in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competition. FBLA is a national student business organization that prepares students from middle school to college age for business careers through academic competitions, educational programs and community service. Students compete at the state level and top students within each category are invited to a national competition. by Russ Alman, Communications Director
One of the frequent questions I receive from Foothills Community Center (FCC) members is what to do with their old electronic devices. Most of us now have a drawerful of old cell phones, music players and mismatched batteries, plus old laptops and TVs in a closet or on a garage shelf. You may not have disposed of them because you are not sure where to bring them, or you might be concerned about someone accessing the information stored on them. by Lisa Blair, Executive Director
Spring is off to a great start, and here at the Center it feels a bit like the quiet hum of a beehive. From the outside, everything may seem calm, but inside we are buzzing with activity. The last of the Gala decorations have been taken down (much to the disappointment of many members), the Second Chance Thrift Shop is packed with new additions, activities are at — or even beyond — capacity, and spring cleaning is well underway throughout the building. Swipe text, also known as “Slide To Type” on iPhones, allows you to drag your finger from one key to the next while the phone predicts what word you are trying to create. This above illustration demonstrates Microsoft’s variation on this technology for their SwiftKey keyboard software, which can be installed on both Android and iPhone smartphones. by Russ Alman, Communications Director
One of the frequent complaints I hear from people over 50 is their frustration with the keyboards on their smartphones. I’m over 50 too, and I have to agree: As much as I like all of the tools my smartphone puts in the palm of my hand, the virtual keyboard is a constant source of irritation. I have fat fingers and not the most dexterous person, and I frequently find myself typing the same mistakes, like hitting the backspace key instead of the M key. And frankly, autocorrect is a joke. Nick “Happy” Davis sauntered into Foothills Community Center about a month ago in his black cowboy hat with a huge grin. It seems like he hasn't left here since. Spring is finally here! I know we didn’t have much of a winter, but it still does my heart good to see the forsythia, willow trees, and tulips and daffodils put on a colorful display for all of us. The parking lot has been swept clean and the air conditioning switches on more often than not during the day at the Center. I hope everyone is feeling as optimistic about the next few months as I am.
If you didn't make it to the A New Era in Bloom Gala and Fundraiser on March 14, you missed one of the best events we've ever held at Foothills Community Center! A FANTASTIC gourmet meal prepare by Chef William from Wenatchee Memory Care; dozens of great items in our silent auction; live entertainment by Felix & Fingers, who braved Snoqualmie Pass to perform at our event.
All of our guests from across the generations had a great time. While we're still tallying up the totals, we believe we raised over $10,000 towards the Building Expansion Fund. Here's a photo gallery from the event: |
