Swipe text, also known as “Slide To Type” on iPhones, allows you to drag your finger from one key to the next while the phone predicts what word you are trying to create. This above illustration demonstrates Microsoft’s variation on this technology for their SwiftKey keyboard software, which can be installed on both Android and iPhone smartphones. by Russ Alman, Communications Director
One of the frequent complaints I hear from people over 50 is their frustration with the keyboards on their smartphones. I’m over 50 too, and I have to agree: As much as I like all of the tools my smartphone puts in the palm of my hand, the virtual keyboard is a constant source of irritation. I have fat fingers and not the most dexterous person, and I frequently find myself typing the same mistakes, like hitting the backspace key instead of the M key. And frankly, autocorrect is a joke. Nick “Happy” Davis sauntered into Foothills Community Center about a month ago in his black cowboy hat with a huge grin. It seems like he hasn't left here since. Spring is finally here! I know we didn’t have much of a winter, but it still does my heart good to see the forsythia, willow trees, and tulips and daffodils put on a colorful display for all of us. The parking lot has been swept clean and the air conditioning switches on more often than not during the day at the Center. I hope everyone is feeling as optimistic about the next few months as I am.
If you didn't make it to the A New Era in Bloom Gala and Fundraiser on March 14, you missed one of the best events we've ever held at Foothills Community Center! A FANTASTIC gourmet meal prepare by Chef William from Wenatchee Memory Care; dozens of great items in our silent auction; live entertainment by Felix & Fingers, who braved Snoqualmie Pass to perform at our event.
All of our guests from across the generations had a great time. While we're still tallying up the totals, we believe we raised over $10,000 towards the Building Expansion Fund. Here's a photo gallery from the event: by Russ Alman, Communications Director If you are a patient in the Confluence Health system, you have likely been contacted and/or encouraged to use MyChart. While some seniors I have talked to have embraced this tool, there are quite a few others that have yet to give it a try. Some didn't receive or lost their login information; others are intimidated by the technology, and some insist that since they've done it "the old-fashioned way" for years, they don't want to change. As a certified MyChart trainer, I'd like you to consider the huge benefits from taking the time to leverage is valuable tool. Here are just some of the reasons MyChart is worth the effort:

I had to make sure to squeeze in an interview with Darlene Backlund during early February before she left on her latest trip... to Antarctica! Darlene Backlund moved to the Wenatchee Valley about 18 months ago to be closer to family, including a son in Orondo and a granddaughter and three great grandchildren in East Wenatchee. She also has family in Western Washington. March at the Center
In like a lion, out like a lamb. With excitement building around this extraordinary evening, we’d like to offer a glimpse into what awaits our guests — and why securing your place now is essential.
On Saturday, March 14th, 2026, the Foothills Community Center Social Hall will be transformed into a breathtaking regency-floral wonderland. Every detail of the space will reflect the sophistication and grandeur of a high-end gala experience. In honor of the occasion, guests are requested to attend in gala or formal evening attire, adding to the immersive elegance of the night. by Russ Alman, Communications Director
This month’s Tech Tips column is going to be a bit piecemeal, but I have a few items that I’d like to share, mostly centered around technology updates we've been making to Foothills Community Center. Dear Friends,
It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the heart of winter with barely a snowflake in sight. While the days may be short and chilly, our center continues to be full of warmth, activity, and connection. Whether you’re stopping by for programs, volunteering, or simply visiting with friends, it’s a joy to see how alive our community stays — even during the quiet winter months. |
